Crime Statistics
The Bureau of Criminal Identification (BCI) of the Idaho State Police (ISP) publishes annual jurisdictional crime statistics for counties in the state, including Bannock County. 2018 reports put crime in the county at 264 violent crimes and 2,332 property crimes. Of these numbers, the violent crimes reported were 1 murder, 20 rapes, 222 aggravated assaults, and 15 robberies. Property crimes recorded were 421 burglaries, 1740 larcenies, 166 motor vehicle theft, and 5 arsons.
Between 2014 and 2018, violent crimes went up by 45.85%, and property crimes by 52.71%. Rape increased by 17.6% robbery (50%), aggravated assault (44.15%), burglary (19.94%), larceny (55.35%), and motor vehicle theft (90.8%). There were no reports of murder that year and arson numbers did not rise or fall. Overall, the crime statistics reveal a hike in crime in the County.
Bannock Criminal Records
Bannock County Criminal Records are official documents containing the criminal history information of county residents who have been convicted of a crime. These records are generated and maintained by the Idaho state Bureau of Criminal Investigation. The BCI provides name-based checks and fingerprint-based checks of criminal records to citizens of Bannock County. There are two methods to obtain records from the agency: by mail, or in person.

Requestors are required to download and complete the Name Based Criminal Background Check Form which costs $20. Acceptable forms of payment are cash, check, or credit/debit card. Payments made by credit or debit cards have an additional $1 processing fee and a 3% charge of the entire transaction. If paying by credit/debit card, applicants are required to fill the Payment Authorization Form (attached to the previous form) Requesters may also opt to use the mail service using the same request forms for the same fee.
To request a fingerprint check, submit a completed Fingerprint Criminal Background Check Form and fingerprint card to the BCI office in person or by mail. The fingerprint card must include the fingerprint official’s signature and date of fingerprinting. This date must not exceed 180 days when submitting the request for a fingerprint check. Also, the party being fingerprinted must include:
- Name (plus aliases)
- Identifying information
- Current address
- Citizenship
- Date of birth
- Place of birth
- Reason for being fingerprinted
- Signature
Applicants who pay by credit/debit card must include a Payment Authorization Form (this is attached to the fingerprint form). There is also a $1 processing fee plus a 3% charge for every transaction.
Residents of Bannock County may obtain fingerprint cards in the Bannock County Sheriff’s Office. It costs $5 per card payable in cash only.

The ISP maintains a central repository of sex offenders for all counties in the state. The information is available on lists on the Sex Offender Registry. Anyone can use the database to search for sex offenders by violent sexual predators, non-complaint offenders, and quarterly non-complaint offenders. The lists reveal the sex offender’s name, address, city, county, zip code, and status.

The Bannock County Sheriff’s Office runs the Bannock County Detention Center. It is the only jail in the county, and it is located at 5800 South 5th Avenue, Pocatello, Idaho 83201. Detention center staff can be contacted on (208) 236-7125.
The Sheriff’s Office maintains the Inmate List. Interested parties may search for incarcerated inmates on the list. To fund an inmate’s account, deposit at the kiosk located at the detention center, or call (866) 516-0115. Acceptable payment methods for deposits made at the kiosk include cash or credit card, and deposits by phone also require a credit or debit card.
What Are Bannock County Court Records?

The Idaho Bureau of Vital Records and Health Statistics maintains birth records from July 1911 to the present. However, in Idaho, birth records are restricted for 100 years. Eligible parties may request these records via mail.

Obtain death records from July 1911 to date at the Idaho Bureau of Vital Records and Health Statistics. Only eligible persons can obtain death records that are 50 years old. Print, fill, and submit an Idaho Vital Statistics Certificate Request by mail to the address below. Attach a photocopy of a photo ID and enclose the applicable fees. It costs $16 for certified copies and $21 for certified photocopies. Searches for death records cost $16. Applicants who want to expedite their request are charged an additional $10. The processing times for expedited requests is 1 to 2 weeks. Normal mail requests take 4 to 5 weeks. All fees are payable by check, or money order to Idaho Vital Records.
